Zan Zendegi Azadi (Woman Life Freedom) #MahsaAmini
Description
A placard with text: “Zan Zendegi Azadi, Woman Life Freedom”. The phrase “Zan Zendegi Azadi” is a Kurdish slogan that translates as “Women, Life, Freedom”. The portrait at the centre of the placard refers to Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman who died in September 2022 while in the custody of Iran’s morality police for allegedly not obeying state-imposed religious dress codes (compulsory hijab). The hashtag “#Mahsa Amini” is shown as a remembrance of her death. One drawing at the lower left placard depicts two women removing their hijabs, and the other drawing at the lower right corner shows three hands raised or clasped, collectively referring to the fight for solidarity.
