If I Must Die – Refaat Alareer

Description

A poem by a Palestinian writer, Refaat Alareer, is written on a kite, echoing with his words: “…sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above and thinks for a moment an angel is there bringing back love…” This poem is a symbol of Palestinian resilience after Alareer was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza in December 2023. The green, red and white ribbon straps on the side and bottom of the kite symbolise the colours of the Palestinian flag. A poppy flower is drawn beside the poem. The poppy’s red petals represent the resistance and sacrifice of the Palestinian people and their bloodshed for their nation.
